Art has always been controversial, from Duchamp's Fountain to Mapplethorpe's Piss Christ and art has always been questioned from Banksy's political attacks to Pollock's abstract works. Art has also very often been considered by some to be in bad taste; Manzoni's Artist Shit, Hirst's formaldehyde tanks, and most all of Nitch's work. Still I was really shocked at how truly upset people were over Tyler Shields newest series of photos in his Destruction series. After all no one was hurt except the crocodile and sadly that doesn't seem to be what all the controversy is about.
The Destruction Series features model/girlfriend Francesca Eastwood (Clint Eastwood's daughter) destroying this red Crocodile Birkin bag and a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes. People are so upset over the destruction of the 100,000 dollar bag that Fancesca has received death threats. Note: This is not the first time Shield's photos have been met with objection. His photos of Heather Morris and Lindsay Lohan have also caused quite a stir. Looking over his site most his photos, though really good are pretty tame so if your looking to be shocked move on.
